Klingons
In 2375, following the end of Dominion War, Chancellor Martok inherited from Chancellor Gowron a basket case economy, a Klingon Defense Force left in tatters, having fought to the brink of total self destruction in a series of costly battles and a massive empire barely under the control of the high council located in Qu'noS.

Over the next ten years Chancellor Martok would bring the Klingon Empire back to the heights of glory through an ever strengthening Federation-Klingon Alliance, a brutal occupation of vast stretches of Cardassian space and the restoration of the Klingon code of honor.

The Triad War consumed the empires resources throughout the 2380's, but ended with the conquest of the Breen Confederacy with the Romulans. The Cardassian's managed to breakaway from the shackles of Klingon-Romulan occupation, bringing to truth the prophetic novel Meditations on a Crimson Shadow by the Cardassian Preloc which predicted the Cardassians would one day defeat the Klingons. The Aean War was a distraction for the Klingon Empire as their primary focus was on holding together their empire.

Early in 2312, Chancellor Martok was challenged by General Pok a former protégée of Chancellor Gowron to a fight to the death over leadership of the Empire. Martok being an honourable warrior accepted this and was unfortunately killed by Pok. General Pok became Chancellor and began a series of disastrous foreign policy errors which would take the quadrant to the brink of war. In late 2412 the USS Republic crossed the Federation-Klingon border and when ordered to turn around by the IKS Da'Spu the Republic refused, stipulating the terms of the Federation-Klingon Alliance allies which allowed free travel between borders; Chancellor Pok in return ordered its destruction. The Da'Spu then proceeded to engage the Republic and after a short battle destroyed the Federation heavy explorer with almost all hands.

The Da'Spu-Republic battle and the fate of the eighty survivors created a serious diplomatic incident. It led to the fall of Chancellor Pok's government when he tore up the Khitomer Accords and ordered an attack of the USS Prospero and Federation Embassy. General Kramis, commander of the IKS Da'Spu along with allied houses initiated a coup and placed himself as Chancellor of the Klingon Empire. (See Prospero Episode 11: Back To The Old Ways).

In 2413 after several attacks on merchant shipping by Zoon'Aran pirates; the Klingons invaded Zoon'Aran space and conquered the colony world of Kdet.Chancellor Kramis has resumed Chancellor Martok's policy of Federation-Klingon Alliance and the Klingon Empire is slowly drifting towards some sought of unification with the Federation, although this is still many years away and the empire will have to fight another civil war before the "Old Guard" allow it to become a member of the Federation.

As of 2414 the officer exchange program is now a top priority project and military officers of the Klingon Empire and United Federation of Planets are regularly seen on each others vessels.
