| BACKGROUND & HISTORY |
|
Tanara
grew up in a loving family. Her parents were both
doctors, one a medical doctor and the other a
psychiatrist. She is the oldest of three children and
from an early age has only ever wanted to be a
Starfleet Medical Officer. Her family has a long
Starfleet history and even though her parents had been
in Starfleet when Tanara was younger, they left the
service when Tanara's abilities began to emerge.
Betazoid children are hard enough to raise, especially
when their empathic and telepathic abilities develop
early. Tanara was especially sensitive and heavily
empathic. Because of that, her parents decided to
leave Starfleet to continue raising their children on
their home world of Betazoid. Life at home for Tanara was loving and demanding at the same time. Her parents instructed her in the proper use of her talents and instilled within her a deep sense of honesty and honor. Even though she received all the training a normal Betazoid child receives, Tanara, because of her parents off world experiences, and also because of her heritage and the influence of her paternal Grandmother, was taught to be outspoken and blunt on occasion. It was probably her grandmother that had the most effect on Tanara as she grew up. Not only did she inherit the Irish woman's looks and coloring, but she also inherited her temper, which she has to work to control, and so can be a little waspish when the occasion warrants. All her studies on Betazed were focused on one thing. Becoming a doctor and entering Starfleet Academy. Even with her life away from it, Tanara could still remember what it had been like to live on board a Starship, and that is where she wanted to be. So as soon as possible, she put in her application and was accepted to the Starfleet Academy. After the Academy, where she graduated among the top cadets in her class, she went on to the Medical Academy. At medical school, she specialized in surgery and toxicology/virology. She'd wanted to get as good an over-all training as she could, but soon realized that as much as she wanted to, she couldn't study everything. Along with her other studies, she learned as much as she could about alien physiology however, and took particular interest in the Vulcan and Romulan physiologies. Upon graduating from the Medical Academy, again in the top group of her class, she finally got her first assignment, an event that she had been looking forward to. She was assigned to the USS Pasteur, a medical vessel where she had the opportunity to further her study, improve her skills, gather some much needed experience, and was able to enhance both her knowledge of toxicology and her surgical skills. It was during a medical rescue mission that Tanara was afforded the opportunity to distinguished herself. She was left in charge of the sick bay while the Chief Medical Officer's skills were needed on the planet's surface. A medical emergency ensued aboard the ship which Tanara, as the medical officer in charge, had to handle. Because of her outstanding performance which resulted in the saving of several lives, she earned a commendation and promotion recommendation to Lieutenant. Tany spent the next eight or so years going from one posting to another. In 2311 she was transferred to the USS Prospero as her Assistant Medical Chief. Tanara was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and became the Prospero's Chief Medical Officer when Dr. Reva was suddenly recalled to her home world. During her time on the Prospero, Tanara met and feel deeply in love with Aran Dav'ra, the Stagnorian Commanding Officer of the STARS team attached to the ship. In the beginning their relationship was rather up and down ,and for a time it seemed as if they would pass each other by, becoming nothing more than good friends. In the end, they discovered their mutual desire and committed themselves to each other. In 2412, the crew of the Prospero was kidnapped and held hostage on Nimbus III by a group of supposed "pacifists" bent on eliminating war from the galaxy. A fact that was belied by the virtual 'death camps' they were held in. Tanara, along with the other surviving medical personnel of the Prospero were the only medical care available to their injured and dying crewmates. They did what they could with what they had, but were virtually afforded no supplies of any kind from their captors. Medical practice became a thing from bygone eras and many lives were lost because of the quality of care they were forced to provide. Aran became a godsend for her during that time, doing what he could to provide her with what crude supplies he was able to fashion. Cloth was boiled for sterile bandages and Aran sharpened whatever he could find into crude surgical tools for her and the rest of her medical team to use. He leant her the emotional support she needed, keeping her sane and able to continue to function. Their emotional and telepathic link grew and solidified during that traumatic time. Tanara didn't realize it at the time, but she became emotionally dependant on Aran. The XO, along with Aran and other members of the crew were able to effect an escape for a very small group by stealing one of the guard's transports. Aran stayed behind in the camp while Tanara went with the critically injured. The arrival of the USS Legacy was responsible for at least one life saved. The ship rescued the remainder of the Prospero's crew and they were all taken to a Starfleet Medical Facility. There was months of debriefings and medical checkups not to mention psychological evaluations following their rescue. After that, there was brief period of R&R. Following that, Aran was sent on a covert mission, one that was going to be long term. Tanara went to Starfleet Medical Academy where she took on a teaching position. She took the opportunity her nearness provided to keep tabs on the Prospero officers still recovering from their ordeal on Nimbus III. By far the worst one had been Shiya Kestrel, the wife of the Prospero's Executive Officer. It was during that time when she discovered just how dependant she'd become on Aran's presence and how much she'd mentally and emotionally come to rely on him. She wound up spending quite a bit of time at the counselor's office and eventually got in contact with Aran's mother, striking up a relationship that only grew and deepened. Tanara was only a few months into her Academy assignment when she received word that Aran was "Missing and presumed Lost". That was the official word and all that Starfleet would tell her. She was devastated. After a brief period where she went to Ireland and stayed in the cottage her grandmother left her, she went back to the Academy and resigned her position as an instructor. Instead, she submersed herself in an in depth refresher course on Combat Trauma Medicine. Her dreams became peppered with
visions of both Aran and her grandmother, and she refused to believe that
Aran was.. Lost -which meant 'dead' in causality mumbo jumbo-, and steadfastly
maintained that she would "know" if he was. |
| PERSONALITY PROFILE |
| Tanara is very attractive in a 'girl next door' kind of way rather than possessing a classic beauty. She does not have the typical "look" of a full-blooded Betazoid and owes her looks to her half Irish, half Betazoid Grandmother. She has a shapely figure, keeping it that way by running, and is both strong and athletic without being grossly muscular. She's always neat, clean and well groomed without spending tons of time fussing with her appearance. |
