| BACKGROUND & HISTORY |
|
Eva Kliest was born in the beautiful lakeside city of Ryior-Urdi the capital of the planet Montaria in 2382. She was born to clan Kliest, a Montarian Highland Clan known for their stubborn resistance in the First and Second Klingon-Montarian Wars. Her Montarian name is Gilraen Oronrá, which translates to Eva Kliest in Standard Federation; which most humans consider far easy to say. She was educated through the Federation Education System on Montaria and attended primary and then secondary school. At eighteen she graduated from secondary school and enrolled in the Montarian College of Exobiology in her home town of Ryior-Urdi. While attending college she enlisted in the Montarian Gold Shields, her planets defence force reservist organization. Her life while at the college and in the Gold Shields consisted of study and education during the week and military training on the weekends. She was trained in the use of disruptor pistols and phaser rifles, as well as hand to hand combat, communications, land navigation and other aspects of military life. She did well both at school and in the Gold Shields and by graduation in 2404 she was a Veteran Phalangite. She applied for Starfleet Medical Academy following graduation and was accepted in large part due to her reservist service and exobiology studies. For her first four years on Earth she lived on the Starfleet Medical Academy grounds in San Francisco. Eva did well in the academy and graduated by 2408. Following graduation from Starfleet Medical she was fortunate enough to obtain an internship at Starfleet Medical itself. She moved out of the Starfleet Medical Academy grounds an into an apartment in the Mission District of San Francisco near the Trans-Francisco Subway line. A large part of her work was with humans, but occasionally she had opportunities to treat other alien life forms. In 2410, Starfleet ordered her onto the USS Prospero having determined she’d spent enough time at Starfleet Medical as an intern and was ready for starship posting. With the Prospero still at Utopia Planitia following the battle of T’sari IV, leave had been granted to several of the crew while the transwarp engines were installed, Ensign Eva Kliest left to attend an Exobiology Conference on the planet of Montaria, coincidentally enough her own homeworld. The conference was a three day affair set up in the highland city of Barcelina. The first day had gone well like always, with the main area of discussion being centered around a new outbreak of the Rudellian Plague on several Cardassian worlds. Returning to Prospero as she headed out to test her new transwarp engines, she was involved in the Transwarped Incident and found herself one of only three doctors on the ship; including the Chief Medical Officer and the Stagnorian Exchange Officer to deal with four hundred sleep deprived and hallucinating crewmen. From the beginning of 2411 to mid year, she spent a great deal of time jumping between the USS Prospero as she served on the starship for short periods before returning to Montaria to attend medical conferences and often volunteering at a local clinic in the lowlands. Eva returned mid year to Prospero full time and was involved in treating the survivors of the SS Aurora Incident. She was awarded the Pulaski Star of Medical Achievement for her operation to save the ship’s operations officer, Dorota Mwoda. An interesting side note was the gift of a House of Gonkor Daq’tagh from Dorota’s Klingon husband Korthos. She was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade at the end of 2411 following her work in the IKS Da’Spu medical centre during the battle over Qu’noS. THE MONTARIANS Biology: Although they have a life span of over two hundred and fifty years, a Montarian is considered an adult at sixteen and is eligible for military service at that age. Montarians resemble physically fit blue humans for the most part; they are a strong race with powerful stamina, impressive acceleration and pace, and have an aptitude to survive in high attitude. They generally do not to do well in low attitudes and require attitude pills to survive for a long period of time in such conditions. Planet Montaria Name: Montaria Planet: M-Class General Description of the Planet The planet of Montaria is a medium sized M-Class planet located in the Beta Quadrant. It is a mountains planet rich in dilithium. Land mass covers 70% of the planet with water 30%, mostly being rivers and lakes. A pre-warp civilization, they were exposed to space faring races early due to their dilithium deposits. The Cardassians, Klingons, Romulans, and to a lesser extent the Federation, have all worked towards gaining influence and access to the dilithium on Montaria since the 2200s. The planet has survived two Klingon invasions and a Dominion occupation. Following the Dominion War and the successful membership application Montaria joined the Federation in 2381. Population: 90 % Montarians 5 % Cardassian – Originally eight million Dominion War refugees. 1% Klingon 4% Romulans, Ferengi, Other Exports: Dilithium, Klingon Disruptor Pistols |
| PERSONALITY PROFILE |
| She can be lazy at times, overly aggressive as well and one would wonder why she was ever commissioned as an Ensign let alone promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade, but during emergencies she’s a very quick thinker, incredibly resourceful and as a medical officer she is brilliant. She’s very proud of her Montarian heritage and gets a little defensive sometimes over it. |
| SPECIAL CHARACTER NOTES |
|
She has a framed picture of Ryior-Urdi in her office. Ryior-Urdi is a beautiful old costal city and capital of Montaria. The picture was a gift from her uncle Cervantes a famed Montarian fighter pilot to remind her of her homeland. Eva only makes house calls when her patients can’t make it to sickbay and of course Captain Jaxom is always an exception. Has an unflinching belief in the medicinal properties of the Trill beverage Balso Tonic and often serves it to patients. She also has her name ‘Eva Kliest’ engraved on all her medical equipment. The Cardassians, Klingons, Romulans, and to a lesser extent the Federation, have all worked towards gaining influence and access to the dilithium on Montaria since the 2200s. The planet survived its first Klingon invasion in a vicious five year war from 2350 to 2355. In late 2372 the Montarians having been a Federation protectorate since 2360 was one of the planets on the Federation-Klingon border which called for a pre-emptive strike against the Klingons following the rising tensions with the invasion of the Cardassian Union by the Klingons. In late 2372 the Klingons attacked the Federation and began the Second Federation-Klingon War, or what the Montarians locally call the Second Montarian-Klingon War. Montaria being a Federation protectorate was a legitimate target to the Klingons and they invaded the planet within days of the attack on the Federation. The fighting between the Klingons and Montarians was vicious as Montarians considered Klingons their mortal enemies. To kill a Klingon and take his Daq'tagh as a trophy was common practice. When a ceasefire was declared between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, the Montarians pleaded the Federation Council to continue the war and invade Klingon space, but something far worse then the Klingons was on the horizon. In 2373 Montarian defences were overrun and they were occupied by the Dominion until 2375. Following the Dominion War, a couple of months after the Dominion War, Montaria was accepted into the Federation. |
