BACKGROUND & HISTORY
Young Karsati Hunter, 2378-2396
He was born on 26th August, 2378 at Martian Colony 3 located on the planet Mars. Young Karsati was the only child the two would have and therefore received plenty of attention thought out his childhood. He was generally a cheerful child who cared about his friends and family greatly, especially his Al-Aurian uncle Tomasa Karsati. Both his father and uncle were civilian shuttle engineers working at the Utopia Fleetyards contracted to Starfleet and his mother a local school teacher. He spent the first few years of his life growing up in the busy place which was Martian Colony 3, until the family moved to Utopia Colony. Although based in Utopia Colony, Karsati as he grew older would regularly visit Martian Colony 3.

Karsati's father brought him up on football and fishing, while his uncle taught him archery and swordsmanship, his mother more content that he could read and write Standard Federation, Al-Aurian and Klingon. The varied education created a strong willed and talented youth who was destined to achieve many feats. His greatest childhood friend was Harper an "obsolete" EMH Mark One recused from reconfiguration by his uncle.

As he progressed through high school, his family encouraged him to take a look at Starfleet and the opportunities it would provide him with. He decided in the end to join the fleet, so when he finally finished his schooling, he applied for the academy and although terrible at mathematics still managed to gain admission, on his other academic merits.

In 2396 the eighteen year old left Mars for the first time in his life and travelled to Earth, the homeland of his human forefathers to attend Starfleet Academy.

Cadet Hunter and his Academy Years, 2396-2400
The Academy was a great experience for the Martian teenager and he did his best to absorb everything he could, he was also glad to be reunited at the Academy with many other young Martians who had left to join Starfleet as well. The time he spent at the academy provided him with a solid grounding for his future career within the fleet. Although unlike others he never really lost the free spirit and strong will that he'd had as a child, which tended to annoy and frustrate many of his academy instructors.

The four years at Starfleet Academy somehow went by, Karsati studied to be a Tactical Officer while pursuing Academy Rugby. Graduation came in 2400 and Hunter left for the USS Alexandria on a deep exploration mission.

Ensign Hunter and his Early Career, 2400-2406
Life onboard the USS Alexandria was challenging as the young Ensign found him self onboard one of the toughest fighting ships in the fleet. Named after a famous British warship, she also seemed to fight like one, the Nebula Class ship being involved in constant skirmishes with the Breen while on her exploration of the Chenobi Sector. In 2402 he'd even receive the Iron Cross along with two other officers for the defence of the Bolian Colony of Botanis, during a Breen raid.

The next year would see the end of the USS Alexandria's exploration mission of the Chenobi Sector and along with the standard Exploration Ribbon. Again the USS Alexandria would set out on an exploration cruise this time towards the Galactic Barrier, after one year of heading towards its destination; she was forced to turn back when she was damaged by an Ion Storm. He received the Legion of Honour for his efforts during the return voyage to Earth.

Finally returning home in 2404 he received news of a transfer to the USS Bueno as well as a promotion to Lieutenant Junior and the position of Tactical Officer. Although he would miss the USS Alexandria he readily accepted the move to the USS Bueno, believing it provide more of a challenge as well as a chance to be recognised for his efforts by Starfleet Command.

Lieutenant Hunter during the Alpino Colony Operation on Takata III, 2406
In 2406 the Starfleet Marine General, Alexandro Travela defected with his Marines and the backing of rebel colonists attempting to secede from the Federation. His first objective was the planet of Takata III. In response Starfleet Command rushed USS Bueno to the Takata III.

One of the separatists objectives on Takata III was Alpino Colony which was placed under the command of Hunter, the recently appointed Chief Tactical Officer of the USS Bueno had initially three tactical teams, as well a sniper from the security department and a young Bolian cadet officer named Yeste, totalling twenty six personnel.

Arriving at the colony by shuttlecraft due to transport inhibitors preventing beaming planet wide, Hunter found six Starfleet Security personnel stationed there and several dozen loyalist colonists which he augmented to his force.

The fighting from the outset was deadly as the traitorous Starfleet Marines, backed by separatist's colonists and Klingon mercenaries attacked Hunter's ad-hoc unit. The north of the colony which he'd left defended by the First Tactical Team and several loyal colonists to guard was overrun and Hunter with the remaining colonists moved to halt the advance into the colony.

Although there had been slight hiccups the defence went rather well, until a detachment of Klingon mercenaries managed to sneak past Hunter's new defensive line. Hunter leading the counter attack himself with his second tactical team, colonies security personnel and several colonists, was cut down by a Klingon warrior, along with the rest of his tactical squad who were killed or wounded. The security personnel and colonists immediately surrendered at this sight.

Fortunately Cadet Yeste and the third tactical squad continued to hold on, falling back to make their last stand in the colonies Bajoran Temple, they too eventually surrendered or fled with the rest of the tactical personnel and colonists. The wounded Hunter waited till nightfall before he snuck away and rejoined his retreating unit. Hunter would not see Cadet Yeste until after the rebellion when he was released from captivity.

Eventually Hunter managed to rally his ad-hoc unit and form a new defensive position behind a river which the rebels would have to cross on their way to Takata III's capital. Reinforcements arrived from the rest of the USS Bueno's tactical department and they were able to bring down a Type VII Phaser Canon, concealing it in nearby hedges overlooking a bridge which the separatists would need to use to get across having no shuttlecraft.

The fight for the river was furious and once again the tactical teams and the loyalist colonists suffered heavy casualties as the rebel Marines and their separatist colonists attacked again and again. After a day of fighting Hunter had almost lost all hope, already considering a retreat to the capital or even worse the surrender of his ad-hoc unit, before he was saved by the arrival of Security Team One and Security Team Two from the USS Bueno.

Hunter and his ad-hoc unit pushed the separatists back, with the intention of recapturing Alpino Colony. Although Hunter also had a Federation Diplomatic Officer attached to his unit at the request of the Federation Council, who questioned every decision he made, which began to frustrate the Lieutenant.

With the Security Teams leading the assault, followed by the Tactical Teams under Hunter and colonists bringing up the rear, the loyalists attacked the colony. The Federation Diplomatic Officer was killed early on during the fighting for the Bajoran Temple, as were many members from the Security teams. The separatists had brought up their own Phaser Canons and as Hunter and his unit tried to push on past the temple many were killed and wounded, including Hunter who was wounded for the third time in the operation. The USS Bueno continued to send assistance with the arrival of Security Team Seven and more colonists joined Hunter, but still they could not take the colony back and casualties continued to rise. In the end the separatists gave up on Alpino Colony and the Federation loyalists achieved a bloody but major victory.

Lieutenant Hunter during the height of Travela's Rebellion, 2406
Although General Travela's forces had suffered a defeat at Alpino Colony the rest of his forces had been successful elsewhere on the planet and now the Separatists moved on the capital. Once again Hunter and his tactical department were ordered to halt the separatists advance with the assistance of the security department.

Hunter decided to hold the rebels on the outskirts of the capital, with the Security department ordered to hold the lower positions of the defence sector and the tactical department holding the northern sector. Meanwhile the Captain of the USS Bueno. Captain Sebastian Lannes fought to keep the colonists loyal to the Federation in the capital's senate and officially outlaw General Travela and his separatists

The separatists this time attacked with supporting Phaser Tanks and Canons, but Hunter and his defenders managed to counter them using direct fire from their Type VII Phaser Canon stationed on the second story of an Orthodox Church, much to the complaints of the local Priest.

Just like at Alpino Colony the separatists came time and time again, each wave inching forward closer to Hunter's positions. But this time the Tactical and Security officers kept a high rate of fire up, leaving the fields in front of their positions covered in dead. Then a sharp counter-attack, found Hunter and his teams overrunning their separatist opponents and taking their artillery train in the rear. Unsurprisingly as well, Hunter was wounded while attempting to capture a disruptor canon, this time unlike the three wounds in the previous operations; Hunter would spend sometime before returning to active service.

The rebellion was eventually outlawed by Takata III's Council and Starfleet brought in other ships and their crews. General Travela realizing defeat was inevitable, ordered his forces to surrender and committed suicide soon after. For Hunter lingering around in sickbay the news was good, several weeks later he received the Starfleet Medal of Honour.

S.T.A.R.S and Alkeran V, 2406-2410
The whole Takata III campaign had shown that Hunter had leadership potential and that he was still loyal to the Federation in an age where many officers could not be trusted. Lieutenant Hunter was transferred to Alkeran V and given command of the planet's S.T.A.R.S (Starfleet Tactical Assault Rescue Service) unit.

Alkeran V was located in the Alkeran System which bordered the Brair Patch and was heavily influenced by the Orion Syndicate. The Orion Syndicate was not impressed by the arrival of this new Starfleet Officer, and on Hunter's first day on the planet there was an attempt on his life. Fortunately Hunter survived and killed his two attackers.

Hunter immediately got to work after the attempt on his life, picking the best officers on the planet for his unit. By best, he wasn't looking for ability but loyalty and trustworthiness, he needed officers who couldn't be corrupted easily. Once selected the S.T.A.R.S team began moving against the Orion Syndicate, they arrested smugglers, closed down illegal brothels and freed slaves. He took the role of a local sheriff, cleaning up Alteran V and earning himself a reputation as a brave and dangerous Starfleet officer. He was promoted to Lieutenant Commander in early 2309.

In late 2409 both Hunter's parents were murdered by agents of the Orion Syndicate on Mars. The Starfleet officer was devastated, but not defeated. Instead he and his unit moved against the head of the Syndicate's compound. It was heavily guarded, but Hunter didn't care and team after four years were willing to do whatever their leader requested. Lieutenant Commander Hunter and his S.T.A.R.S attacked the compound, killing and wounding three dozen henchmen before finally getting to the Orion Syndicate's mob boss, who'd waited patiently for Hunter in his office. Although tempted to kill the man, Hunter brought him in, four weeks later the Orion criminal leader was released on a technicality. Hunter was awarded the Christopher Pike Medal of Valor that same day; most believe this was done to calm him down following the Orion bosses release.

The USS Prospero, 2410-PRES
Following the murder of his parents and the raid on the Orion Syndicate Compound, Hunter was ordered to attend counseling. Starfleet Counseling deemed him to be clinically depressed and suffering from stress. They suggested a transfer off Alkeran V; Starfleet Command decided to send him to the USS Prospero after receiving a request for new officers from Captain Janeen Jaxom following the desertion and transfer of half her command staff after this first cruise.

On August the 28th, two days after his birthday which he celebrated alone onboard the USS Santa Cruz which was transporting him to Starbase Atlantis where his future starship was docked, he officially transferred his commission to the USS Prospero, taking command of the ship's tactical department.

During the mission to uncover the silence at Starbase 230 and the disappearance of the USS Manitoba, Karsati was part of an away team beamed down to the Manitoba's bridge. The team was ambushed and forced to withdraw. Karsati was separated from the rest of the team and attempted to make his own way off the ship. While moving down from the observation lounge to deck two, he ran into Lieutenant Yeste in the ships mess. The young Cadet who had once left the wounded Hunter behind during the battle for the Alpino Colony several years back, now he was dying at the hands of an alien lifeform. Karsati witnessed the Bolian's suicide and used his phaser rifle to survive onboard the Manitoba with Ensign Farlander until they were later beamed off the ship and back to the safety of the USS Prospero.

He participated in the engagement over T'sari IV, he manned the ships tactical station and saw to the recalibration of the ships shields with the help of Crewmen Hazen. For his efforts he became the ships acting executive officer, leaving the tactical department behind under his previous assistant chief, Lieutenant Drayton Hunt. He was awarded the Medal of Honour for the second time in his Starfleet career.

Karsati served as the acting executive officer of the Prospero while she took on repairs at Utopia Planitia. After the Prospero was repaired he left the ship under the ruse that he had a son with Catalina Oliviera and he was taking time out to be with the pair, but in actual fact he undertook a special assignment for Starfleet Intelligence, impersonating a Romulan foreign legionnaire and traveling to Romulus, where he worked with a Stagnorian Intel team to rescue Captain Jaal Jaxom. In mid-2411 he returned to the USS Prospero as the ship's Second Officer.

In late 2411 Karsati was transferred to the USS Brandenburg several months after the Stangorian assault on Alstair III. The Brandenburg's task was to defend Federation shipping and colonies from further Zoon'Aran pirating activities. In events reminiscent of his earlier career he was ordered to Montaria to hunt down the Starfleet traitor Commander Anderson one of the officer's who'd betrayed the USS Prospero at the T'Sari IV' incident. Needless to say, out of a two week struggle in the mountains of Montaria, only one of the two men beamed off the planet.

In 2412 he applied and was accepted to the Andorian Imperial Guard Sniper School on Andoria. He did very well during his six months of sniper training and received his Marksmanship decoration and then later his Expert Marksmanship decoration on the completion of the course. Following sniper school he was invited to attend Command School at Starfleet Academy, he graduates in early 2414 and is reassigned to the USS Prospero.
PERSONALITY PROFILE
Hunter has a high professional rating when it comes to his ability to get the best out of his department, while his leadership is inspiring, bolstering the morale of his department by leading from the front. His personality is fairly impetuous, he doesn't need to be told something to do it, although this sometimes gets him in trouble, especially with Starfleet and its strict mission guidelines.

As a tactical officer he did not always suffer from the usual animosity between Tactical and Security personnel, in fact he had a great deal of respect for the security department since the day his crumbling tactical department were reinforced by Security Team One and Security Team Two from the USS Bueno and later witnessing them fight so bravely to the death during the assault to recapture Alpino Colony.

Karsati is a proud young man, well young for a half Al Aurian; he is idealistic and values loyalty and honor above most things. He has always fought courageously in the name of Starfleet and the Federation, because he believes in the Prime Directive and the will of the Federation Council. An inquisitive man, he usually finds himself asking lots of questions. He is extremely active, always moving around and participating in most sports. Karsati in general is an alright guy, although when he doesn't get along with someone he'll usually be cold rather then aggressive.
SPECIAL CHARACTER NOTES
Hunter is a keen fisherman and spends several hours fishing on the holodeck, either on his boat or off his favorite wharf.

Karsati's EM-33 Plasma Pistol Model 2133 (Handguard Modification)
During Karsati's first year at Starfleet Academy he purchased the old EM-33 Plasma Pistol Model 2133 while out on leave with his girlfriend at the time and fellow Martian first year cadet, Zaia Cynekin. It took Karsati over two months of searching to find suitable parts to restore the pistol. Years later he also had made a custom modification by adding a handguard to it after a Klingon mercenary knocked it out of his hand during a melee. When he'd showed his uncle and mentor Tomasa Karsati the pistol, the man laughed at Karsati stating he'd never have a use for it. Since then to prove his uncle wrong as well as for the extra sense of security it provides, Karsati regularly carries the old pistol with him on away missions.
