| BACKGROUND & HISTORY |
Elizabeth Farlander was Born in the early hours to Lt Commander Paige Farlander and her husband Commander Keyan Farlander in the Ark Royal sickbay. after a very long labor of 43 hours, Keyan and Paige were greeted with the loud cries of their healthy infant daughter but the delivery was very rough for all concerned as it had almost killed Mother and Daughter. Growing up, Elizabeth was only called 'Beth' by her family so she'd gotten used to being called Beth by them only and won't let anyone else call her Beth. She is not fond of people that call her Beth twice but will make exceptions for her friends and family members. Elizabeth's Entire family from her Grandmother on down is a part of the House of Kaang, its a small but powerful house and tries to avoid feuds whenever they can as the house has only four living Klingon members but over two dozen human members, this gives Elizabeth the right to wear a Dak'tag and the Bandoleer if she so chooses but up until serving on the Lanntis and the Breen attack that had crippled the ship, she had declined that honor but now Elizabeth now wears the Dak'tag as well as the Bandoleer on her person at all times. Also several months later, the Mirror Keyan Farlander came over from the Mirror Universe with Twin Infants in his care and after a long and complicated surgery, the Mirror Keyan died of complications, leaving his infants in the hands of this universes Keyan so she was raised alongside her Brother and Sister named Pash and Valerie. Captain Keyan Farlander and his Wife later welcome several more additions to the family name. Elizabeth is like both of her parents in some ways and nothing like them in others and it sometimes made things tense between them. Elizabeth was already preparing to go to Starfleet Academy at Age 17 and when she turned 18 she entered Starfleet Academy. Elizabeth sometimes trained with her father on the Holodeck with various types of bladed weapons like the Human Tulwar and the Klingon Mek'leth as well as the Tik'leth among many others. She Knew that her mother had had issues delivering her as well as the Aean she privately feared, she went into Medicine and she graduated at the top of her class in 2403. Her Time at Starfleet Medical was one of the most rewarding and most challenging times of her life. While on a class field trip to the site of the first Mars hospital. Elizabeth was separated from her classmates due to a landslide where she lost most of her equipment including her small field med-kit and without her combadge, nobody had any way of knowing if she was okay or not so she decided rather then cross over the landslide, she set out to do the impossible as one of her classmates had challenged her a day before saying she'd never make it if she were stranded out here, that jest pushed her onwards towards her ultimate goal of making it to the Starfleet base on the top of Olympus Mons, about 250 kilometers away so she lived off the land eating what she could catch and kill and taking her chances with the water that she was told was drinkable beforehand but that was before she lost her med-kit. The hike took her almost a week to complete but she made it in good spirits and good health but to her chagrin, she was given a reprimand but it was later dropped at the request of the Starfleet Commander of the Olympus Mons base. Elizabeth felt that she had to push herself to excel and while earning a Letter of Commendation from the Commandant as well as an Outstanding Cadet Medal due to her hard work, she felt herself beginning to tire an burn out and it was about this time when she met another student named Nate Peterson and the two began dating but after a short time he became domineering and he tried to control Elizabeth, ultimately he tried to rape her one night after she'd come home to tell him that she was breaking it off, the two got into a fight and they both wound up beating the living daylights out of each other but since Nate was bigger then Elizabeth, he did more damage on her then she did on him as she was shoved roughly through a window. In the end he didn't rape her thanks to one of her classmates coming to her aid, Fellow Cadet Tolian Brevik who was back at the Academy training for a Medical Degree surprised them both as he broke through the doors to her apartment and he broke up the fight with a Security Team from the Academy Campus. This particular incident was to have interesting repercussions for then both as Tolian Brevik became something of a close friend and then later he became an older brother for Elizabeth. he even went so far as to tell her his entire history, this only strengthened their bond as she shared her history. Elizabeth became hardened against dating, she also became more aloof and distant as well but she soon graduated from Starfleet Medical. Her first assignment was the Newly Commissioned USS Peerless-A and she learned a lot here, she also studied Pediatric Medicine as well as being involved in sickbay during several medical emergencies, helping to save dozens of lives during the recovery of the USS Concord that had been severely mauled by a Borg Sphere that was destroyed by the Peerless. This action earned her a Commendation for Excellence in the Medical Department. By the end of her tour of duty on the Peerless. Elizabeth had picked up three more medical Degrees one of them was in Pediatric Medicine and the other two were in regular Medicine so now she's a fully Licensed MD. Elizabeth was transferred over to the USS Ronin-A as their Assistant Chief Medical Officer and this assignment for her was a major adjustment for her. Not only was she part of of an Official first contact in December of 2405 with the Taskanns. this earned her another commendation because one of the Taskann's had a sudden medical emergency that required Elizabeth to operate on him, this action earned her a Interstellar Legion of Mercy Medallion, she almost refused the medal saying she was simply doing her job but due to her lack of assistance on the Ronin's sickbay, she took the medal and said no protests about it but she she didn't feel that she was ready to have that much authority over ones sickbay and it didn't help that in Mid 2407, the Chief Medical Officer left leaving Elizabeth as the Chief Medical Officer, feeling overwhelmed and unprepared, Elizabeth requested a transfer over to the USS Lanntis as a Medical Officer. Captain Ron Martz didn't claim to understand the young woman's reasoning but he approved her transfer anyway. While on the Lanntis, Elizabeth learned more about Medicine in General and was part of her second first contact and this for her was a real milestone as few Officers her age got to be part of First Contact Assignments but this one involved a pregnant mother that needed to deliver her infant or risk losing it, on the advice of the Freighters Captain, Elizabeth took the wounded mother back to her sickbay on the Laantis and she helped her deliver her infant, shortly afterwards the mother named the infant after Elizabeth and the Laantis so the name of the infant was spelt Be'Laan'tis and while Elizabeth was honored by this. she didn't know exactly why it was broken up like that but she never got the chance to learn as in Mid 2409, the USS Lanntis was attacked and boarded by the Breen. There were only 4 Breen ships but they outnumbered the Lanntis and what's more, they outgunned her as well, realizing that a diplomatic solution to this mess was impossible, Elizabeth realized that she had to utilize the skills that her father had taught her over 15 years before, she aided the security teams in defeating the Breen and with the aid of Several other Federation ships, they drove off the Breen attackers. This action earned her another two ribbons for her slowly growing collection. One was her second Purple Heart and the other was a Breen Defense Ribbon. The Lanntis spent several months undergoing refits, this time off for Elizabeth allowed her to visit her parents and learn how to defend herself in case something like that should ever happen again. Realizing that she needed a challenge to move on with her life, she requested a transfer back into the Fleet in 2410 and she was sent to the USS Prospero, while serving on the Prospero, she became close to several officers that would up being transferred for various reasons but the final straw in what was already a large stack was the death of the Conn Officer due to a homemade explosive device in Science Lab One. The Pain and the Stress of losing a friend while on the operating table because of something she felt to be very foolish caused Elizabeth to start drinking more and more and of course when Jennai Angelique was fully regenerated 12 hours later, Elizabeth was so enraged that she even went so far as to make a death threat against her, she handed her a uniform, told her to get dressed and then get out of her sickbay or else, considering the nature of her emotional state at the time as well as her training, it was highly possible that Beth would have beaten the crap out of Ensign Angelique if given the chance. Elizabeth ran into her old friend who became the new chief ops officer for the USS Prospero who now wore the rank of Lt and she was happy to see him, she had also started to become involved with one of the Intelligence Officers but in Elizabeth's own private opinion and to quote her "This guy scares me" in this case his name is Lieutenant Anton Tobias, but however things may look on the surface, there is that old saying "still waters run deep" in the end, despite being impregnated by him, things didn't work out and the two didn't get along. Elizabeth delivered a healthy baby boy under combat conditions in sickbay during the mission to T'sari IV but just a month later, Lieutenant Tobias's Borg implants went suddenly re-activated attempting to turn him back into a Borg drone but the Captain shot and killed him in self defense. Beth was outranged and according to Klingon tradition she went to answer for his crimes or avenge his death. She went to the Captain about it but wound up taking her maternity leave off of the USS Prospero and she returned home to Tennessee in North America to raise her son for the month off that she had coming until she'd heard that the Prospero had disappeared during a transwarp test flight. She requested a transfer to the USS Ajax but she was refused but unbowed, she tried again with a transfer to the USS Relentless and this was accepted, she was waiting for the Relentless at Utopia Planitia when she received word that the USS Prospero had reappeared near Alpha Centauri so she transferred back to the Prospero as one of their Medical Officers. She also watched as Lieutenant Brevik's demons slowly consumed him and as she tried in vain to help him, he gave up and angrily left the Prospero, saying that she was trying to smother him as he lashed out at her, part of her was saddened to see him leave but another part of her was glad that he was gone, she shook her head and went back to work. At the end of 2411, she had decided that she needed a more stable environment for her infant son and this was given to her aboard the USS Hyperion where she was assigned first as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer and then a year later was promoted to the Chief slot when the Chief transferred offship for unknown reasons. In 2414, Beth decided that she had enough of being bored with her assignment on the USS Hyperion and she requested a transfer back to the USS Prospero, much to her surprise, her request was granted. |
| PERSONALITY PROFILE |
Beth in many ways a contradiction. She's searching for something and she don't know what it is. She has a quiet dedication to duty, she was once outgoing and eager, now she's rather reserved and quiet. She's spent the last 25 years watching the Federation deteriorate from its grand majesty to what it is in 2414 and she's grown bitter and cynical about the Vulcans in particular. She feels they abandoned the Federation and Starfleet in their time of
greatest need but she will work with them if she's told to. She won't let that get in the way of doing her job. She sometimes wishes that she had her mother's strength but both her parents have been there for when she's needed them. |
| SPECIAL CHARACTER NOTES |
Beth is rather laid back and will always have a smile to share and a joke to tell to lighten the mood. when things get hairy and the ship starts shaking apart, she'll raise an eyebrow and keep going with her work, saving lives. Beth is known for being the resident wise acre of whatever department of the ship she's on, regularly dropping a world-weary bon mot into the regular routine that's a Starfleet Officer's life. since the stress of losing a friend, Beth's opinion of life has become darker but with her son in her life, maybe she can turn it around. Beth also has an unusual ability where she can determine the exact distance between two points in space that she can see it's something she's generally kept to herself. |
| WRITER'S NOTES |
Beth Farlander was created as an infant on another sim not even 6 months ago and I've always been interested to see how she'd develop as a infant into a child and then into an adult. Its not often i get to play the child of a character that I've had for 6 years but It'll be interesting. Now after about a year or so after putting her on the shelf, I get to play her again, Excellent! |
