BACKGROUND & HISTORY
L'kz'n'r was born on Xenex, in the city of Calhoun, home of the legendary freedom fighter M'k'n'zy, who is better known to the rest of the Federation as Mackenzie Calhoun. L'kz'n'r's father, M'kai, was a biology professor at a local university, and his mother, K'nara, was a botanist. Both of his parents placed a strong emphasis on his schooling, and expected him to follow in their footsteps, and for a time L'kz'n'r believed his fate lay in academia, as well.

When he was twelve years old, L'kz'n'r ventured into a hazardous desert known as the Pit. Centuries ago, Xenexian youths braved the Pit in a rite of passage known as the Search for Allways, where glimpses of their future would eventually come to them, and they would come to understand their place in life. This tradition was discontinued after too many never came back, but a few, like L'kz'n'r, were daring (or foolhardy, depending on one's viewpoint) enough to enter the Pit. He left Calhoun with only a day's worth of supplies, as was customary.

While in the Pit, L'kz'n'r was caught in a fierce dust storm and became lost. He wandered the Pit for four days, surviving only on small, scorpion-like pit creatures. On his fourth night, a very exhausted L'kz'n'r experienced a vision of his future. He saw himself leaving Xenex and venturing out into the stars, where many years of adventure and enlightenment awaited him. After the vision ended, L'kz'n'r fainted from exhaustion. When he awoke the next day, he discovered that he had somehow left the Pit, and was lying on the outskirts of Calhoun.

While L'kz'n'r did indeed excel at school, and had a particular interest in the study of the past, his vision in the Pit left him with no desire to pursue a career in academics. Immediately following his graduation from secondary school, L'kz'n'r shocked his parents by enrolling at Starfleet Academy on Earth. Few Xenexians left their homeworld, but L'kz'n'r was convinced that his destiny lay somewhere among the stars. Because his name was difficult for most non-Xenexians to pronounce, L'kz'n'r took the Terran name Alexander, and like his predecessor Mackenzie, he adopted Calhoun, the name of his city and his clan, as his surname.

The Academy proved to be little challenge for Alec, as he came to be called by the other cadets. He aced every class relevant to his chosen field, that being tactical, and consistently earned high marks in most of his other classes. He was also active outside the classroom, particularly in athletics. Alec was captain of the parrises squares team, and won the Academy Marathon in both 2408 and 2409, becoming the first cadet to win it in back-to-back years.

Alec's high academic scores, combined with his outstanding extracurricular activities, allowed him to graduate in the top one percent of his class. Following his graduation, he was assigned to the USS Kumari, a Prometheus-class vessel. The Kumari's Chief of Security was an Andorian, who took the young Xenexian under his wing. Alec soon developed an appreciation for the Andorian culture and language, and began studying combat with the ushaan-tor, as well as Heshlinar, an Andorian martial art.

Alec was promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade, in 2413, but continued to serve on the Kumari as a simple security/tactical officer. A year later, Alec discovered that the USS Prospero was looking for a new Assistant Chief Security/Tactical Officer. He immediately applied for a transfer, feeling that he should have a more prominent role with his increase in rank. Much to his former chief's disappointment, Alec's transfer was approved, and he joined the Prospero's new security staff.
PERSONALITY PROFILE
Alec is intelligent, confident, and friendly, with a sarcastic sense of humor. Like most of his people, he believes in living honorably, and will take great offense to any insult to himself, his family, or his culture. He takes great pride in his family, both past and present, and he is equally proud and protective of his culture and its history.

Xenexians are polytheistic, and Alec can often be heard muttering an oath to one of his gods when he's agitated, particularly J'e'n't, the three-headed lightning god. Xenexians are also somewhat less tactful than most, an attribute that has gotten Alec into trouble on more than one occasion.

Alec's parents placed just as much importance on improving the body as they did the mind, and Alec is no different. He is an avid athlete, having taken part in numerous sporting events throughout his life, both in and out of school, and he keeps himself in exceedingly (some would say sickeningly) good shape.
SPECIAL CHARACTER NOTES
While at Starfleet Academy, Alec's roommate, a Terran from Delaware, introduced him to a series of ancient Terran animated cartoons called Looney Tunes. Alec became a huge fan of them, and he has since managed to acquire every single Looney Tunes cartoon ever produced. His favorite characters are Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
